Online Casino Ruling Expected
In the southern American state of Mississippi, a judge has heard final arguments in a case brought against the owners of an Internet cafe on charges of allegedly allowing patrons to gamble online.
Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens is expected to hand down a judgment by tomorrow in the case against Ronnie and Jeff Moore, owners of the Paradise Isle Internet Cafe in Clay County.
An undercover agent for the Mississippi Gaming Commission stated in court that he was awarded cash after he finished playing casino games on the cafe's computers. However, the attorney for the defendants stated that no illegal gambling was taking place in the establishment and that the undercover agent had only been awarded sweepstakes points.
The case was originally scheduled for the local Clay County Justice Court but Mississippi Attorney General, Jim Hood, halted the case as soon as it had been filed and rescheduled it for the more senior Clay County Circuit Court.
“There wasn't even a final ruling in the case,” said Harriet Bragg, a clerk for the Clay County Justice Court.
“The Attorney General appealed the case before it ended.”
