Dragon flames on casino cheat allegation
A factory worker has been vindicated after being accused of cheating for his big win at Adelaide's SkyCity Casino.
Jens Peter Dragon won $22,000 at the casino in July 2006 after playing on the Sega Royal Ascot horse racing gaming machine.
But casino bosses claimed Mr Dragon had cheated in the game, taking advantage of a machine malfunction which registered all notes as $10.
The game features six model race horses and players place bets on which will finish in the first couple of places.
Thinking his luck was in, Mr Dragon was about to bank his $22,000 in winnings, but within days the casino management said the machine was faulty.
They charged Mr Dragon with taking advantage of a machine malfunction for his own ends, for which he could have faced up to ten years in the slammer.
"They tried to put me in jail for winning something," the 44-year-old told the Adelaide Advertiser. "It seemed as if Lady Luck embraced me for a two-day affair, but she turned out to be a harlot who'd been around the block a few times," he added. However, charges were dropped in the Adelaide Magistrates Court due to a lack of evidence.
Still, Mr Dragon claims that he has spent his rightful winnings on fighting the 18-month-long legal battle and may take further action.
