Quarter of Swansea uses casino
The number of people that have signed up to become members of Swansea's £13 million Aspers casino is equivalent to a quarter of the population of the city.
According to the Swansea Evening Post, Aspers casino has processed applications for 45,000 members in the six months since it opened for business.
Aspers duty manager Dominic Greer, said: "The response from the general public in the first six months of opening has been phenomenal."
However not all the members visit the casino to play the slots or the tables, Aspers bosses told the publication.
Some 35 per cent of the casino's members do not even visit the establishment for its gaming facilities but go there for the three bars, the restaurant, the beauty centre and the live entertainment on offer, the newspaper revealed.
Now Swansea's love of casinos will be further catered for after the government announced that it would be one of 16 towns and cities which can apply for a licence to build a regional casino.
The town could now see bigger jackpots of up to £4,000 and as many as 80 slot machines.
Aspers had not said whether it will bid for the new casino licence.
