British Government Fold Plans for Super Casino

Months of speculation ended this week after the British government scrapped plans for a ‘super casino’ instead announcing it would opt for 16 smaller casinos dotted around the UK.

If it had gone ahead the new super casino would have been built in Manchester, aimed to help regenerate a part of the city which had been suffering economically in recent years. The move would have seen 2,700 jobs created in the area, but after the initial plans for the casino came under attack, Prime Minister Brown u-turned, much to the chagrin of mega casino operators in the US and Far East.

Casino operators such as Rank, Genting Stanley, and London Clubs are now expected to compete to secure their share of the 16 licences.
