Casino bids rejected in States
US casino initiatives aiming to get slot machines and blackjack tables into more states have suffered a setback, the Associated Press reports.
Kentucky governor Steve Beshear said that his attempt to build casinos locally was "dead" last week.
Previously, initiatives in Massachusetts, Ohio and Nebraska had run into similar trouble with local lawmakers - with many local residents objecting to the casinos.
Kentucky businessman John-Mark Hack commented: "We've got states that are identified with three different regions of the country - the South, Midwest and Northeast - that are rejecting the casino agenda.
"It's clear that a trend is emerging."
However, Holly Thomsen at the American Gaming Association - which is campaigning for the casino expansion - said that she felt upbeat about the future of the industry.
"I don't think it's true that there is some trend out there showing people are routinely rejecting casinos," she said.
Currently, 37 of 50 US states allow some form of casino gambling.
