Louisiana Gambling Revenues Up
Casinos in the southern American state of Louisiana took just over $234 million from gamblers in February, a sharp jump from the $212 million they earned for the same month in 2006.
The biggest winner was Harrah’s Entertainment’s New Orleans venue, which saw its take rise by some seven million dollars, with State gambling regulators commenting that the increase was due to the Mardi Gras season coming early combined with the National Basketball Association’s All-Star game being held in the city last month.
In addition, officials said that the state now has two more casino outlets than it did a year ago, the Amelia Belle riverboat casino near Morgan City and a slot machine venue at the New Orleans Fair Grounds. There will also be a third as Pinnacle Entertainment received approval last week from the Gaming Control Board to begin construction of its second riverboat casino resort for Lake Charles, which is to be a $350 million project including a 400-room hotel.
