Betfair and PBL Seal Deal
Following the Australian government’s green light to the betting exchanges, Betfair has wasted no time in moving into the Aussie market, yesterday announcing a joint venture with one of the country’s leading names in business, Kerry Packer’s PBL.
Packer is Australia’s richest man and a keen punter himself. PBL (Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd) is a media and entertainment company worth an estimated £3billion. PBL's core businesses are television production and broadcasting; magazine publishing and distribution; and gaming and entertainment. It owns and operates Australia's highest rating free-to-air television network, the Nine Network, the number one Magazine publisher Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) and the leading entertainment facility - Crown Casino in Melbourne.
Mark Davies, Director of Communications at Betfair said: “The partnership is the most significant agreement yet concluded by Betfair, and represents a ringing endorsement of Betfair’s status as a UK exporter of cutting-edge technology. Betfair’s business - proven in the UK - has now been recognized by one of the biggest names in world media and leisure. Betfair looks forward to partnering its technology with PBL’s impressive sports coverage, and its unparalleled reach to the Australian public. The deal is a major fillip for Betfair’s drive to internationalize interest in sport across geographical boundaries, which will bring benefits for all stakeholders in the sports industry in the UK and in Australia.”
