NCRG Spending Millions On Research
In America, the non-profit National Center For Responsible Gaming (NCRG) has announced that it will spend $7.6 million to construct a responsible casino gambling facility and research centre.
According to Phil Satre, Chairman for the NCRG, the money was made available in September from the casino industry's own takings with two of the world's largest casino companies, Harrah's Entertainment and MGM Mirage, responsible for the largest proportion of the sponsorship with two million dollars each. These donations marked a five-fold increase in the amounts both contributed last year, indicating how seriously they take the issue of problem gambling.
The Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Disorders, a program of the Division on Addictions at Cambridge Health Alliance, handled the grants, which will be used at the new facility to investigate the causes of problem gambling.
