No smoking while betting, AC council says
Smoking while playing on gambling tables or slot machines will no longer be allowed in Atlantic City from tonight.
The New Jersey city's council has imposed a new rule that will negate previous regulations that allowed people to smoke on 25 per cent of the gaming floor, reports the Associated Press.
Cigarettes, cigars and pipes and can now only be lit in designated smoking rooms where there will be no gambling available.
The tobacco restrictions appear to be another blow to Atlantic City's gaming resorts, which suffered a decrease in profits last year amid increased competition from rival states.
It was reported in the Associated Press that things have now gotten so bad for the city, that many casinos are considering cutting down on the number of comps given out.
Casinos had argued against a total smoking ban last year and accepted the 25 per cent rule as a compromise.
Several gambling companies in the UK have said that last year's smoking ban has affected revenue.
