New Canadian Tournament Next Month

America’s World Poker Tour (WPT) Enterprises Incorporated has announced that a major new land-based poker tournament for Canada will take place from May 5 to 13 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia.

The Coast-to-Coast Poker Championships will feature high stakes poker action in an east versus west format and is being run in co-operation with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. WPT stated that it is expecting a large entry field due to Canada's record of producing top poker players, many of which are expected to be in attendance.

The Championships will feature seven events with an anticipated 2,650 players taking part to generate a prize pool around $2.4 million including a top prize for the main game of $377,300. The penultimate event is scheduled to run from May 9 to 10 with a player cap of 550 and a buy-in of $3,000.

WPT stated that events would include no limit Hold'em, pot limit Hold'em and Omaha high-low alongside special events such as a bounty tournament and a Mother's Day team tournament.

The Championships will be the first stop for the WPT of Canada and will be filmed in order to produce four one-hour episodes to be aired nationally in Canada.
