US Racinos enjoy rapid growth in past decade
A recent study in the US has found that racinos as they are known, have experienced a faster growth than casinos in the past decade. It is ten years since horse racing tracks began to introduce casino games to their sites, and this new study has positive news regarding the success of these ventures.
Called racinos, these adapted casino style race tracks were introduced in six US states. A report focusing on the casino industry, published by the Analysis Group in California, found that from 1994-2003 the revenue generated by these racinos had risen by 52 percent, a higher rate than other forms of casino gambling.
Although the actual quantities of money bet on these race track casino games can in no way compete with the vast amounts spent at more traditional casino venues, US$2.3 billion for racinos versus US$26 billion for casinos, the growth rate is good news for the racino operators. The report suggested two main reasons for this fast growth rate-those being the fact that this period has seen racinos develop from infancy and there has been little competition being offered within the states that operate these venues.
