Ho: Extra Macau land will not go to casinos
Edmund Ho has reaffirmed Macau's stance on not giving any more land to companies in order to build casinos.
The former Portuguese colony's chief executive was quoted by macauhub as saying the extra five kilometers squared reclaimed land, which will increase the size of the city, will definitely not be allocated to the gambling industry.
Lau Si Lo, the secretary in charge of transport and public works, announced the land expansion yesterday and said 60 per cent will go on public facilities such as green areas and housing will go on the other 40 per cent.
Macau is the most lucrative gaming destination in the world and the latest statistics reveal a 62 per cent increase in growth during the first quarter of this year.
Last week, Mr Ho said China is to curb the speed at which the city is growing, by restricting the amount of land given to casino companies and increasing licensing regulation.
