Hoosier Park Racing Set To Open Casino Venture
In a move which is set to create up to 500 new jobs, the owners of Hoosier Park Racing are set to introduce a casino operation to compliment the horseracing business. This will be the first time that racing and casino operations have been linked in the state of Indiana. Initial signs are that it has been well received in a part of the US which has seen job losses of late.
While the casino venture is not set to open until 2 June (pending regulatory approval) the high powered Public Relations machine has already kicked into life with press and local residents invited to experience the new look area prior to the official open. Interestingly the “casino” will only have slot machines, with no Poker tables, no roulette wheels or any other form of gambling. There are rumours that the extra staff required for the “tables” would have been an expense too far at this stage of the economic and industry cycle.
So it looks as though the casino industry in Indiana is not dead and while the new venture will be firmly built around slot machines, there is a suspicion that Poker tables and more traditional games will appear in the future.
