Disused Clark County gaming site burns down
A 13-year-old former casino in Clark Country, Nevada has burned to the ground, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports
Legendary tennis player Jimmy Connors has been linked with the Alystra since it opened in 1995 but it had been closed for ten years when fire consumed it last night.
It was suggested by the Las Vegas Business Journal last year that the Henderson venue could "rise again" after modifications to local casino size restrictions, but any hopes went up in smoke yesterday after the property suffered critical damage.
Firefighters were apparently told that people were using the building as a squat prior to the fire but officials have yet to confirm these allegations.
The Alystra was boarded up in 2005 to try and prevent homeless people from using it as a shelter.
Speaking to the Business Journal about when the squatters were first evicted, Liza Conroy commented: "I heard it was really awful."
