Is Jamaica Set To Become The Next Macau?
It has the sun, it has the sea and it has the tourist numbers, so why are there so many objections to the plan to introduce a casino to Jamaica?
The Jamaican government have gone on the offensive after a string of attacks on their plans to introduce casinos to the country. While many of the calls to halt the move are from religious groups, there are some who feel that the whole structure and atmosphere of the country could be put at risk. But what about the economic implications for such a venture? The increased job prospects?
There is no doubt that Jamaica has the visitor numbers required to make a casino operation work, it also has many people looking for employment. Like so many countries and US states before them, it seems that shoe horning the first casino into the country will be the hardest task as opposition should reduce if they are successful.
While this would be the first casino development in the country there are hopes that they may in some way be able to replicate the success of Chinese enclave Macau. Macau came from nowhere to snatch the casino capital crown from Las Vegas. Interesting times ahead for the Caribbean island.......
